daughter keeps jumping out of the batters box when batting |

I have a 12 year old daughter who is on a select fastpitch softball team. She is a great pitcher and fielder but she seems to be scared to death to bat. The
softball team that she is on practices with a pitching machine. She can hit really well off of the machine. I take her to the batting cages and she does
excellent. But if a live pitcher pitches to her she is afraid to get hit. Right after the pitch, even before she know where the ball is going (inside, outside
or down the middle), she will take a step out of the batters box. I don't even think she knows that she is doing it. She will swing the bat if it is a
strike, but will be so far away from the plate she couln't hit the ball. When she is up to bat her confidence level is very low compared to everyone else.
The team she was on a few months ago did not like my daughter at all because they knew she would strike out every time. They all shunned her. Because of this
her confidence is even lower because she expects to fail. She is on a new team now and tournaments start in 1 month. I, as a mother want to see her suceed more
than anything. What can I do to help her?? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

This is not an easy cure, especially with a young girl. I have 5 daughters, so I can say that without being chauvinistic. Most parents will buy a protective padded undershirt to wear under the uniform top. This is in the hopes that the player will consciously realize that even if they get hit they are protected. The best ones are...
WSI Heart and Kidney Protective Undershirt And the EvoShield Chest and Rib Multi Sport Protector
The EvoShield is more comfortable for girls. Now, this doesn't always work, but the protective shirt with an open stance almost always does.
One more thing - I am glad you have a batting cage to go to. Get a couple extra tokens next time and go into the
fastest cage. Don't take her bat, but have her put on her glove. Play catch with the machine. The first few tokens she'll either miss or back away.
Slowly get her to catch the pitch directly in front of her. This will boost her confidence in her hand-eye coordination.

Ask you daughter what comes to mind when she bats. You will understand why the fear during batting. As for drills, you can slowly break down her swing by
starting with wiffle balls while tossing ball in front of her then progress on having a pitcher pitch in front of her. Maybe you can ask the coach to have live
pitching during practices rather than a pitching machine because having a pitching machine during practices loses the prospective of hitting against a pitcher.
